What could we do?

The 'classic' participatory budgeting model was developed in Brazil in the late 1980s.

Citizens are directly involved in making decisions about where money goes within their community.

Do we need funding to help?

People are invited to share their ideas for community projects to improve their local area.

Area meetings are typically held so that projects can be pitched and people can discuss why funding is needed.

What would you like to change?

Community projects look at local issues like activities for young people, community green spaces, or supporting lonely people, and suggest ways to see improvements.

There is power in these ideas. As they come from local people or community groups, the wider community is inspired to help make the ideas a reality.

Temp

How can we make it happen?

After ideas for community improvements, project pitches and research have been completed, the whole community is invited back to vote.

The chosen projects are then awarded funds to be put their ideas into practise. It gives real people real power over real money.
